Unmanned Aircraft Systems Hangar

RS&H is serving as the Designer of Record for a new, 130,000-square-foot Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) hangar at Fort Hood. In addition to the 12 maintenance bays, the facility will provide maintenance and shop areas, tool, equipment and gear storages area, as well as flight planning, operations and troop support facilities, and general administrative areas for two companies.  

The project is being designed using BIM and required extensive site development design. Site elements include eight acres of 8-inch Portland Cement Concrete apron, a new 1,200-foot long taxiway, taxiway lighting, entry road extension, access roads, POV parking lot, five storm detention ponds, an AFFF detention pond and diversion system, two remote fire pumping stations, over five miles of 16-inch watermain, a 3,000-GPM domestic water pumping station, and an elevated 500,000-gallon water storage tank. All utilities were designed to accommodate a future, adjacent hangar.

In order to achieve energy consumption of 40-percent less than ANSI/ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 90.1-2007, the proposed project includes sustainable design features, such as high efficiency building envelope, HVAC, lighting/electrical, and solar domestic hot water/plumbing systems. All selected systems have EPA Energy Star or FEMP designations. The new facility is on track to earn LEED Silver Certification.
