Antilles Elementary School

RS&H provided the multidiscipline architecture and engineering to develop a design-build request for proposal (RFP) for the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) using DoDEA educational specifications for elementary schools and 21st century school concepts. RS&H performed an original planning charrette in 2008, as well as subsequent design charrettes in 2009 and 2010, responding to site changes and program changes. In 2011, RS&H modified the design to utilize 21st century education concepts.

When the design was revised to meet the new criteria, RS&H spent time working with the DDESS area service center education leadership to define the curriculum goals. RS&H also conducted presentations to the educators at Antilles to help introduce 21st Century Education curriculum and to define how a new curriculum would affect the new school design. Through in-depth client interviews, the design team was able to identify where spaces could be reduced or revised.
