Institute for Food Safety - Phase II

The Institute for Food Safety’s new, single-story building will have three components: a commercial testing laboratory, academic laboratories, and offices. The program splits the plan into two halves designed around common and shared support areas. 

The concept includes positioning the academic labs immediately adjacent to the commercial labs, separated only by floor-to-ceiling glass panels. This feature will allow learners in the academic curriculum to have first-hand observation of a functioning lab. The commercial testing laboratory will have sample reception, sample processing, sample extraction, general chemistry labs, HPLC labs, molecular/microbiology labs, reagents/standards lab, and sensory labs. The academic teaching labs mirror the commercial side functions. The facility also includes a computer classroom for approximately 36 students, as well as a state-of-the-art large conference room for video teleconferences and presentations. 

Permanent faculty offices for professors sit adjacent to the Institute for Food Safety director and staff offices. A central receiving room serves the entire building with mechanical and electrical rooms.
