At no other time do children feel more vulnerable than when recovering from healthcare intervention such as proton therapy. Immediately following a proton therapy procedure, patients are admitted to a post-anesthesia care unit (PACU).
This place is special in that it was designed with kids in mind, unleashing imagination and providing positive distractions. The space is inviting and engaging, full of color and light with soft forms and overlapping lines. Luminous ceilings glow above the children’s beds as a part of a nautical theme, while multiple LED screens around the room depict previous patients’ artwork.
The nursing staff provides advanced care to patients to ensure a safe and efficient recovery from anesthesia and sedation while supporting the patients’ families and visitors. During a patient’s visit to the PACU, his/her designated registered nurse updates the family on developments and facilitates them in conferences with clinicians. Patients are discharged from the PACU directly to their homes.
