RS&H Health & Science and McKesson Specialty Health / The US Oncology Network are mid-way through design on a $6.5 million dollar, 7,600-square-foot, two-story addition to Willametta Valley Cancer Institute and Research Center in Eugene, Oregon (WVCI). Once the project is completed, which will involve renovating 13,000-square feet of existing structure, WVCI will have increased the cancer center footprint by 25-percent.
The new addition and renovation will feature a new, forty-seat IV therapy suite with private infusion rooms, a USP 800 compliant retail pharmacy, a blood testing laboratory, a clinical trial-research department, a breast center clinical suite, business administration offices, and a staff meeting/lounge with views of and access to landscape areas.
Located in seismic category “D”, RS&H Structural and MEP Engineering must plan the addition in full compliance with local code requirements for earthquake design. In addition, Engineering was challenged with making economical selections on steel moment-resisting frames, MEP components, supports, and seismic restraint systems.
