CHC Regional Greenway Trail

In order to encourage healthier and more active lifestyles, several Georgia counties are lending support to a regional greenway trail system. The Chattahoochee Hill Country (CHC) Regional Greenway Trail is a proposed 98-mile multipurpose trail system along the Chattahoochee River and is anticipated to span four counties when completed: Douglas, Carroll, Coweta, and Fulton. The first section, the Douglas County Pilot Segment, is a 0.75-mile paved recreational facility located in a Douglas County mega-park.

RS&H served as the lead designer for the Douglas County Pilot Segment and assisted the county with implementing their vision for a multimodal trail facility. We worked with a collaborative group of stakeholders, including representatives from all four counties and the City of Chattahoochee Hills, to develop design standards and amenities for the overall trail system, including benches, trash receptacles, bollards, bike racks, water fountains, and signs. We also incorporated innovative, sustainable designs and materials into the development of the pilot segment.

Once completed, the CHC Regional Greenway Trail will provide an alternative transportation option for travel between the four rapidly developing counties. The successful completion of the pilot segment is a significant accomplishment that builds excitement for the entire trail system and brings momentum to move forward.
