RS&H serves as the prime Program Management Consultant for construction engineering services on the Michigan Department of Transportation’s multi-year Bridge Bundling Program with the objective of reducing the state’s number of closed, serious, or critical bridges. RS&H provides program management, construction engineering, project ombudsman services, construction inspection, and oversees consultants providing fabrication inspection, materials testing and construction staking. The contract is administered on a task-order basis for this MDOT-led Design-Build project.

The bridge bundle program has involved full bridge replacements, superstructure replacements, substructure patching and repairs, HMA roadway reconstruction, and permanent bridge removals for local agency owned structures throughout the state. The program has improved the transportation of goods in rural areas with high agricultural traffic and contributes to the state’s economy by bundling structures allowing local contractors to remain competitive and utilizes local suppliers to provide materials.

In March 2021, RS&H had the privilege of joining MDOT Chief Bridge Engineer Beckie Curtis in hosting Michigan’s Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist, Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel, and Local Agency representatives of the Macomb County Department of Roads on a site tour during construction. RS&H also assisted MDOT with hosting Governor Whitmer, City of Jackson Mayor Daniel Mahoney, Michigan State Representative Julie Alexander, and Local Agency representatives of the City of Jackson on a site tour of the Washington Street bridge in Jackson, Michigan.
