IH-45 Gulf Freeway Widening and Reconstruction

RS&H, as the prime CEI consultant, is providing Construction Engineering and Inspection Services for the widening of 5.5 miles of IH 45 between Houston and Galveston from six to eight interstate mainlanes and six lanes of frontage roads. The $220 Million project will also replace fifteen existing bridges, including flipping the existing configuration at FM 646 and IH 45 with construction of a new mainlane bridge over FM 646, four bridges over Clear Creek, and a braided entrance from FM 518 to IH 45. The increased capacity and enhanced mobility of the interstate will facilitate growth and development in Galveston County, upgrade an important hurricane evacuation route, and position the interstate for the future construction of Houston’s third outer loop.
